It’s like Spiderman,but Chanel

with 5 comments

Craziest thing i’ve come across this week is that fashion powerhouse Chanel, the epitomy of chic, are releasing a range of temporary tattoos.

Just like the ones you used to get in Spiderman chewing gum, Chanels ‘Haute Couture Tattoos’  are the same that we all had when we were kids.Costing £49 for a pack of 55, the tattoos will go on sale in March and have already been sported by celebrities such as Daisy Lowe and Agyness Deyn.

Officially entitled ‘Les Trompe L’œil de Chanel’, each temporary tat set will have 55 designs of flowers, birds, necklace style designs, cuffs and of course the infamous double-Cs

A  reporter who tried them out has said :”my ineptitude at applying them means a colossal wastage rate, with blackened bits of logo curled about me like dead flies.”

What do you think? would you buy these tattoos to have a taste of high fashion, or like me do you think they are a collossal waste of money for somethin that just looks, well, tacky?

Friday Night, What Am I Doing? Grating My Shoes Of Course!

with 8 comments

Right so i’m off out in a bit, problem is is that my new, beautiful, nude coloured platforms have the slippiest sole i’ve ever encountered. So much so that just walking around my flat has become a hazard. So what did I do? Trudge carefully along the road ? Why no, I reached for the cheese grater!

”Cheese Grater??” I hear you say, yes cheese grater!
Ladies all you have to do is simply grate the bottoms of your slippy shoes a few times and they’ll immediately be as safe to walk in as your trustiest stilettos.

I promise you this really works!

7 Stone Model ”Too Fat” for Catwalk

with 5 comments

The debate over size zero models was re-ignited today after a seven stone model was told she was ‘’too fat’’ for the catwalk.

Coco Rocha , 21, is a UK size 6 and has most recently been seen modelling at Diane von Furstenberg’s  show at New York Fashion Week.

However the model told how she had lost out on a lot of catwalk work after refusing to lose weight.

“I’m not in demand for the shows anymore,” she said. “I’ve been told to lose weight when I was really skinny.”I’ve stopped caring,” she says. “If I want a hamburger, I’m going to have one.”

The row comes as popstar turned designer Victoria Beckham defended designers rights to use thin models on American daytime show ‘’The View’’

Beckham has been taken more seriously in the fashion industry after a major image and lifestyle overhaul. Her latest collection for her DvB fashion line has just received positive reviews at New York Fashion Week, where she  said: “Most of the girls I use are naturally thin.”

Speaking on American daytime show ‘The View’, she said: “And I don’t think we should be discriminating against someone because they are too thin or too curvy or too large or whatever it is.’’

The fashion industry was supposed to have moved away from the trend of waif-like models following the deaths of Luisel Ramos, suffered a fatal heart attack during a fashion week in Uruguay in 2006. She had lived on a diet of green leaves and Diet Coke for three months in a bid to be ready for a the catwalk show.

I personally think that this debate could rage on for years and years. It always seems to emerge during Fashion Week season.Designers will always want their models to be thinner and thinner, resembling coathangers, because simply, the clothes hang better that way, yet there will also be outcries from anorexia groups and national press calling for healthier looking models, and I don’t see a solution arising anytime soon.

I must say  though that i’m surprised at Victoria Beckhams attitude, especially after she has come under scrutiny for her weight in the past.Either way i’d love your comments and thoughts about this story.

Brit Awards Winners and Losers

with 6 comments

Wow, what an eventful night the Brit Awards were this year! in a night that saw Lily Allen ascending from the sky on a rocket, Liam Gallagher throwing his Brit award into the crowd and ex-Gucci boss turned producer Tom Ford presenting the award for best album, here are my outfit highlights of the night.

Florence  in a gold sequinned  minidress, Fearne rocking the casual look and Lily in Chanel.

Pixie Lott                                                         Alesha Dixon                                        Alexandra Burke

     Kylie                                    Ke$ha                         Edith Bowman

Special mention has to go to triple award winning act Lady Gaga who arrived wearing a three layer tribute to the french revolution, then whipped it off during a special performance of ‘Telephone’ and ‘Dance in the Dark’ to reveal an all over lace catsuit whilst playing a piano/guitar/keyboard hybrid which she has dubbed the ‘Gagatar’.Lady Gaga dedicated her performance to ‘Lee’- late fashion designer Alexander McQueen.

London Fashion Week

with one comment

This week sees the start of London Fashion Week (or London Fashion Week brought to you by Canon, to use it’s full name) and I personally cannot wait.I’m particulary looking forward to seeing 60’s inspired brand PPQ, Sienna Millers brand Twenty8Twelve,Burberry Prorsum as well as the usual wacky designs from design students at Central St. Martins.

However this years Fashion Week will have one noticeable absentee- British designer Alexander McQueen ,who last week took his own life after failing to cope with his mother passing away.McQueen was a truly inspirational designer, having won British Designer of the year an unprecedented 4 times. His death will no doubt cast a sombre mood over the week, where he was due to show his latest collection. On the day of his death, he was due to show at New York Fashion week.Since then, share reports have shown interest in Alexander McQueen clothes has skyrocketed and stores have been mobbed.Talk of an Alexander McQueen award has also been discussed at his former school. Central St Martins.

See the full list of what’s to come at LFW here and check back here throughout the week to see all the gossip!

A Lott of Style

with 2 comments

The most exciting news that I’ve heard all week is that Brit-nominated songstress Pixie Lott has agreed to design a new range for Lipsy, my favourite high street designer. The style icon has agreed to design a summer and winter collection for the brand, each revolving around two distinct looks : “Pixie Festival” and “Pixie Party”, and with every purchase Lipsy will also be giving away 3 Pixie Lott downloads, absolutely free!

Pixie said: “I have always been a big fan of Lipsy and regularly shop in their stores. I love what Lipsy stands for and I am very excited at the thought of working with such a talented and creative team. It’s going to be great fun.”

Indeed it seems that Pixie really can’t get enough of Lipsy at the moment, recently being spotted in their sell out black lace prom dress from their new spring/summer collection.

Low Back Lace Cut Prom Dress £55; available at

I personally can’t wait for the new collection to hit my local Bank store in Kingston, and add some of Pixie’s ”Festival” look to my holiday suitcase!

Hello World!

with 2 comments

My  name ‘s Amy McCullough and welcome to my first blog ever!I’m currently in my second year at Kingston University(that’s Surrey, not Jamaica unfortunately) and I’ve decided that as a Journalism student, I should probably have a blog to hone my writing skills.I’ve decided that 2010 is the year that I will start to make things happen for myself, take my degree seriously, learn to drive , get some sort of journo work experience and finally get some travelling done! As a 20-year-old my list of ”Places I have Visited” is truly shameful.

We’ve all been told that online  content is the future of Journalism, and many have predicted the death of print is nigh.I will be writing about Fashion news, scandals, events such as London Fashion Week  and what’s new in a high street near you.
