7 Stone Model ”Too Fat” for Catwalk

The debate over size zero models was re-ignited today after a seven stone model was told she was ‘’too fat’’ for the catwalk.

Coco Rocha , 21, is a UK size 6 and has most recently been seen modelling at Diane von Furstenberg’s  show at New York Fashion Week.

However the model told how she had lost out on a lot of catwalk work after refusing to lose weight.

“I’m not in demand for the shows anymore,” she said. “I’ve been told to lose weight when I was really skinny.”I’ve stopped caring,” she says. “If I want a hamburger, I’m going to have one.”

The row comes as popstar turned designer Victoria Beckham defended designers rights to use thin models on American daytime show ‘’The View’’

Beckham has been taken more seriously in the fashion industry after a major image and lifestyle overhaul. Her latest collection for her DvB fashion line has just received positive reviews at New York Fashion Week, where she  said: “Most of the girls I use are naturally thin.”

Speaking on American daytime show ‘The View’, she said: “And I don’t think we should be discriminating against someone because they are too thin or too curvy or too large or whatever it is.’’

The fashion industry was supposed to have moved away from the trend of waif-like models following the deaths of Luisel Ramos, suffered a fatal heart attack during a fashion week in Uruguay in 2006. She had lived on a diet of green leaves and Diet Coke for three months in a bid to be ready for a the catwalk show.

I personally think that this debate could rage on for years and years. It always seems to emerge during Fashion Week season.Designers will always want their models to be thinner and thinner,resembling coathangers, because simply, the clothes hang better that way, yet there will also be outcries from anorexia groups and national press calling for healthier looking models, and I don’t see a solution arising anytime soon.

I must say  though that i’m surprised at Victoria Beckhams attitude, especially after she has come under scrutiny for her weight in the past.Either way i’d love your comments and thoughts about this story.
